Message In the Bottle

Message in the bottle is my first photoshoot. The lighting and the beach are so amazing. Hawaii out matches a photographer’s skills. After finishing off the bottle I looked at the copper ring and thought this bottle will make a great focal point on the beach.

I kept the empty bottle in the kitchen for months before actually taking these photos. Why did it take me so long to actually get out to the beach and take photos? Like most things in life, we hold ourselves back. Are we afraid of success or failure? In this case I learned there are amazingly talented people out there who put real time and effort into their art and I have a hard time thinking I could be one of them. I am still just a guy with a camera trying to engage and capture moments in time.

Taking these photos showed me we can engage with our environment and move a couple items to portray a feeling. Is the message a last cry for help from a stranded vessel or a romantic sending a wish out into the vast ocean hoping for the wish to be granted? These photos bring a sorrow and loneliness, but also a connection between the helpless soul and a random person who finds it on the beach.
